| Christmas Mummers |
|
View Description
|
The Mummers, or "Jannies" as they were called in some parts of Newfoundland
and Labrador, were a welcome site, especially during the Christmas season. Young
and old alike welcomed the excitement of their visits. The mummers' knock at
the door, their costumes, music and dancing added to the christmas spirit, as
household members took turns guessing the names of the people behind the disguises. |

Writing Lines |
View Description
| Linda was born on the Great Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland where, as a child, she experienced "writing lines". Sealskin boots, such as those featured here, would have been worn by children during the winter months. |
